House Proposal For Landmark Gourock Church
Plans have been drawn up to convert a historic Inverclyde church building into a house.
The former St Bartholomew’s Church, which sits on the hillside at Barrhill Road overlooking the Clyde at Gourock, was sold by the Scottish Episcopal Church last year through Bowman Rebecchi.
The proposals drawn up by Rebecchi Architectural include a new mezzanine level, a glazed extension, a raised terrace, and off-street parking.
Drawings show dining and lounge areas, a bedroom, a sitting room, two further sitting rooms/guest rooms, and an office.
The B-listed building closed in July 2021 after 160 years of operation when the small congregation took the difficult decision to disband.
Designed originally by J C Sharp of Gourock in 1867 and extended by H D Walton around 1895, the church’s features include a chancel extension enhanced by a beautiful window depicting the Ascension designed by George Walton.
The application is pending assessment by Inverclyde planners.
