The billionaire Easdale brothers have unveiled plans for a new £1.5m Greggs drive-thru in Greenock which would create approximately 30 jobs in the town.

The national bakery has been lined up to operate a new coffee shop on vacant ground in Cartsburn, along the A8 corridor, which is owned by the property and transport tycoons.

The bakery chain has been chosen as operators for a single-storey outlet which will be built at land on the corner of Arthur Street and Rue End Street.

Previously approved plans for the site estimated that approximately 30 jobs would be created by the new development.

The proposals were submitted by Rebecchi Architectural on behalf of Dalglen1810 Ltd, the investment vehicle owned by Sandy and James Easdale.

They purchased the site from Scottish Enterprise in 2018, with Bowman Rebecchi marketing the site and supporting the Planning application.

Commenting on the new development, Sandy Easdale said: "This is land that has lain barren for more than 30 years.

"We are delighted that the new drive-thru will rejuvenate the site and hopefully make wider investment around the site a more attractive prospect."

His brother James believes the deal is an important boost to the local economy, adding: "We want to see both local and national companies investing in Inverclyde and encouraging different forms of economic regeneration that will benefit the local population.

"The new Greggs outlet will create retail jobs and it is important that the region is viewed as a place to do business for all types of firms."

Following the application for a food and drink drive-thru outlet being granted permission in 2021, revised drawings showing the Greegs branding are now in place and have been fully approved by Planning officials.

The updated site plans show parking spaces for 35 cars, with three accessible spaces and 14 electric car charging points.

The developers are now seeking the building warrant they need from Inverclyde Council in order to allow work to commence on the building and car park.

A Greggs spokesperson said: "Greggs is always looking into new shop locations, while we are unable to confirm anything at the moment, we will be sure to share any information in due course."
